The band plays original compositions, as well as songs made popular by by Mongo Santamaria, Israel "Cachao" Lopez, Ricardo Lemvo, Eddie Palmieri, and Poncho Sanchez. Experience rumba, son, cha cha, and mambo played from the heart and always danceable.
Yambique! The name (yahm-BEE-kay) comes from the names of two Afro-Cuban Rhythms, Yambu and Mozambique. The ten member Bellingham Washington-based ensemble blends the traditions of jazz, Afro-Cuban and Carnaval, to deliver sweet melodies, classic Latin rhythms and beautiful solos from all band members.

Band MembersYambique features soloists John Meloy on tenor saxophone, Mars Lindgren on trombone, Paul Chandler on trumpet and Ray Downey on baritone and soprano saxophones and flute. Percussionists are Steve Jones, John Butorac, and Kevin Candela on congas, bongo, timbales, bells, guiro, shekere, and claves. Roger Yamashita on stand-up bass and Bill MacDonough on piano complete the rhythm section. Tanya Kitterman is our singer/percussionist.
